Quantum Computing is an emerging field to that harnesses the laws of quantum mechanics to build powerful tools to process information.

lt stands to disrupt current computing techniques as we know it and will enable industries to tackle problems they never would have attempted to solve before. Quantum computing has the potential to solve computational problems that are beyond the reach of classical computers by harnessing the laws of quantum mechanics to process information in new ways. This approach to computing could transform areas such as chemical engineering, material science, drug discovery, financial portfolio optimization, and machine learning.

The initiative focuses on the application development side of Quantum Computing - develop quantum algorithms by offering the research community a platform for experimentation and learning.

AWS MeitY Quantum Lab

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in India established the Quantum Computing Applications Lab, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), to accelerate quantum computing-led research and development and enable new scientific discoveries. This is MeitY’s first initiative in the country to provide scientific, academic, and developer communities with access to a quantum computing development environment in the cloud. This is also the first quantum computing applications lab on AWS Cloud to support a government’s science and technology mission at a country level.

About The Lab

The MeitY Quantum Computing Applications Lab identifies quantum computing problem statements for experimentation from central and state government ministries, government agencies, research institutions, and academia.

This Quantum Computing Applications Lab enables the scientific, research and developer community with access to quantum computing on cloud and provides access to a fully managed quantum computing service on the AWS cloud that helps researchers and developers get started with the technology to accelerate research and discovery. The Lab provides selected applicants with no-cost access to quantum computing hardware, simulators, and programming tools on-demand, including access to the broad range of AWS Cloud services, enabling them to build algorithms, conduct advanced simulations, and run experiments.

The MeitY Quantum Computing Applications Lab helps government departments and agencies identify problems and opportunities rapidly, and test real-world challenges through experiments and prototypes in a low risk environment. Outcomes from these experiments helps in evolving the problem statements, proof-of-concepts and prototypes that leads to the development of applications, models, and frameworks in quantum computing. It works with subject matter experts from the government sector to define the problem statements, and make them public, inviting applications from researchers, academia, and organizations to address them.

The Lab puts quantum computing in the hands of every developer and scientist to build algorithms, conduct advanced simulations, and run experiments.
